Emily & Matt’s Lake Michigan Inspired Wedding Photography was on a WINDY day! We used it to our advantage and captured incredible photos by the lakeshore!
This intimate wedding started with Emily getting ready at a private residence in Northport, Michigan. Emily wore a stunningly simplistic dress from BHLDN by Watters. She even had the cutest denim shirts embroidered with her monogram for her and her closest girls. Emily and Matt maintained a theme with blues and wood tones throughout the day that tied into the beauty of the lakeshore and surrounding area.
Emily & Matt chose to have a first look at the Houdek Dunes Natural Area in Leland, Michigan. If you love nature as much as these two you have to check it out! There are beautiful white birches, a carpet of ferns, and of course dunes! Check it out here! Matt’s reaction to seeing his bride for the first time in this intimate setting was such a special moment!
We all headed to St Wenceslaus Catholic Church after capturing some great photos at the Natural Area. The church is a stunning historic structure surrounded by orchards in the heart of the Leelanau Peninsula! This quaint church was perfect for the small number of guests attending to celebrate Emily & Matt. With vows exchanged, everyone was excited to head to the cocktail hour and reception!
From Emily & Matt: “We wanted the wedding to feel like a family vacation with a wedding. We wanted a setting where our friends and families could get to know each other in a relaxed setting. We incorporated our local favorites, and stuck with vendors on the peninsula or near Traverse City.”
I think they succeeded in creating the atmosphere they hoped for! Cocktail hour was filled with cozy seating areas for guests to enjoy while they sipped on Cherry Republic sodas and other local favorites!
The long reception tables were filled with fragrant eucalyptus surrounded by glass candle holders and a special touch of birch candle holders that Emily’s Dad made! I also loved the chambray napkins with home-made Leelanau Peninsula coaster favors too!
Before we went to the lakeshore to take some sunset portraits Emily & Matt cut their cake by The Flour Shop. I love the artistic, and colorful brushstrokes on their cake design! The cake plates were made in a pattern that Emily’s great-grandmother started to collect and left to her mom. So special and thoughtful!
While walking down to the lake with these two it was undeniable how much fun they have together! The genuine laughs these two bring out in each other was a pleasure to capture behind my lens. With the wind whipping and Emily’s hair flying, I knew the movement was going to unfold some fun imagery!
