Northern Michigan Maternity Family Portraits | O’Rourke Family

The Northern Michigan maternity family portraits took place on a warm evening in June. What a beautiful session! The O’Rourke family were vacationing near Walloon Lake and we were able to take some amazing family and maternity photographs!

The woods of Northern Michigan make an incredible backdrop for any session! First, I took some photographs of the family together. These pictures are so lovely. A family smiling and playing together. Then, we switched over to maternity photos with Cali. The glow of the evening sun and her white dress give the photos a very soft, beautiful feeling. 

After these shots in the field of wildflowers, we moved down a wood chip path. We love capturing real moments of joy at all our sessions. From pointing things out to a child on a path, tossing a child into the air, and taking a moment to pick flowers for mom. It is the little moments that we like to capture that our clients can cherish for years to come.

Then, after we finished playing in the woods, we moved out onto the shoreline. I always like to shoot in multiple locations. What could be better than a Northern Michigan beach! We got some fantastic shots of the family with the lake and shoreline in the background. After, we took some more relaxed and playful shots of the family. As well as, some beautiful moments shared by the couple. 

While beside the water, we got some more maternity photos with Cali. The sun setting paints her with golden light. I really had a lot of fun with this blended session. We then took some more fun photos on the rocky beach. Then, we ended our Northern Michigan Family Portraits with shots of the family sitting on the rocks.

Michigan High School Senior Portraits | Lauren

Lauren’s Michigan high school senior portraits were taken on a gorgeous sunny day in August! Summertime in Northern Michigan is an absolutely perfect time of year to have photos taken.

I met with Lauren and her mother near the Port Oneida School House in Maple City. We first started taking photos in the tall grass in a field by the school. The breeze lightly blowing the tops of the grass and Lauren’s hair had a lovely effect in the images. I selected a spot with a striking tree in the background. We were able to use some of the tree’s shade to keep the sun out of Lauren’s eyes. We love our sunny days, though! Next, we took some portraits beside the barn that was nearby. The look of the aged barn wood and the white and blue dress Lauren had on was a great pairing!

Next, Lauren changed into another outfit, and we took a few more photographs in the same area. We love it when seniors bring a few outfits with them. A variety of options in neutral shades is the best. Then we are really able to magnify their natural beauty!

Senior photos are so much fun in Michigan! We took a few more in the same field and on a stack of aged logs. There are so many wonderful spots in this area! One of Lauren’s favorite places is the Leelanau Peninsula. We love to photograph in areas that are significant to our clients.

After capturing some fantastic shots on a gravel road, we moved to a really gorgeous pine tree site. The sunlight falling through the trees looks so beautiful! After taking photos in these trees we moved to the beach. We had so much fun getting some really stunning portraits by Lake Michigan.

Beautiful Michigan! What could be better than the beach in the summer? Tall grass. Sandy beaches. Rolling waves. There is so much to love! Thank you so much, Lauren, for choosing us for your Michigan high school senior portraits!

Bay View at Gallagher Farms Wedding Photography | Chelsea & William

A bride and groom on their wedding day on the Leelanau PeninsulaChelsea & William’s Bay View at Gallagher Farms Wedding Photography highlighted all of the beautiful scenery Northern Michigan has to offer! This fun loving couple planned their wedding over Labor Day weekend. It was an exciting day shared with their closest friends and family!

I met the bride and bridesmaids at the barn on Gallagher Farms property. The barn is a great “getting ready” space that also makes for many photo opportunities. In their cute pajama sets, the girls walked through the orchards while I photographed them laughing. They then slipped into their bridesmaids dresses from Birdy Grey that were in two different shades of mauve. Chelsea put on her wedding gown from The Wedding Shoppe with help from her mom. Gallagher Farms property has SO many incredible views! We took portraits in the orchard and on the hills overlooking Grand Traverse Bay. With the girls tucked away I met with William and his groomsmen to take portraits!

Chelsea and William did not do a first look so I always make sure to take the bride & bridesmaids and groom & groomsmen portraits before the ceremony. This really helps to allow more time for bride & groom portraits after the ceremony. Whether you choose to do a first look or not we will guide you along the timeline making process for your own big day! 

The ceremony at Gallagher Farms is on a hill that has a view overlooking the Grand Traverse Bay. Guests took their seats enjoying the sunshine, blue skies, and view! William walked down the aisle and waited to see his bride for the first time. Chelsea walked towards her husband to be with a huge smile on her face! With their vows read and marriage license signed the two sealed the deal with a kiss. Hand in hand, the two talked down the aisle as husband and wife in front of all their loved ones!

Following the ceremony I photographed the entire bridal party together and family portraits. Once the formals were finished it was time to focus on the bride and groom! Chelsea and William were excited to utilize the property and we got a great variety of images for them to treasure! Meanwhile, the guests were enjoying cocktail hour in and around the tented reception. When we were finished with portraits we hopped on a golf cart and zipped up to the reception area! Cocktails and appetizers were passed around while everyone mingled.

Guests surrounded the entrance of the tent and welcomed the newlyweds into the reception. I was thrilled to capture the excitement and joy on everyones faces while Chelsea and William shared their first dance together. Everyone took their seats and enjoyed thoughtful speeches by the father of the bride, maid of honor, and best man.

After a delicious dinner I took Chelsea and William just outside of the reception tent to take sunset portraits before a storm rolled through. It was so cool to watch the large thunder clouds roll in over the bay! Chelsea and William really wanted to do a sparkler send off. Right after taking sunset portraits we lined up guests outside of the tent. The guests held long sparklers while the newlyweds ran through them! The long sparklers are great so we can have the bride and groom run through them a few times  before they burn out. The couple and their guests finished the night with dancing and fun!

Congratulations Chelsea and William, cheers to many years filled with love and joy!
